Cañasgordas, Antioquía
Background

For indices across the board, poverty rates in the rural areas of Colombia are considerably higher than those in urban areas, serving as a contributing factor to young people joining (or being forced into) one of the armed groups participating in the 40-year conflict that has ravaged the country. In Colombia’s countryside, one in five children suffers from chronic malnutrition, and 30% of the population remains illiterate.
Project

Developing Minds Foundation is supporting the Secretos Para Contar literacy program aimed at introducing books and reading programs for 300 campesino families living in the conflict-area of the Cañasgordas municipality in the Colombian state of Antioquia.
